FEATURE OVERVIEW:

Unique Capabilities. Presentation gives you many capabilities (see below) that are simply not available with other platforms for stimulus delivery and experimental control -- regardless of cost.

Precision. Presentation® has unexcelled timing precision and testing procedures to assure precise experiments with your hardware – every time!!

Universality. Presentation® runs on any Windows computer (including laptops) providing high precision with standard hardware -- no expensive special response boxes or voice relays are needed!! Presentation® interfaces easily with all brain imaging systems.

Stimulus Generation. Generate simple visual and auditory stimuli at run time. Also make them with Matlab!

Analysis Tools. Dual monitor control gives you run time feedback on the subject’s performance. Powerful built-in tools facilitate the analysis of behavior and performance and output lists of events or stimulus blocks for analysis with fMRI and other techniques.

VISUAL STIMULI:

  • Video Images. Presents video images in all standard formats.

  • Animations. Single frame images at all refresh rates without dropping a frame.

  • Video. Deliver streaming video in MPEG and AVI video formats mixed with other video stimuli.

  • Virtual Reality. Present 3D "game-like" environments in mono or stereovision. Subjects can move through realistic environments as you measure responses with sub-ms precision.

  • Text. Precise delivery of text stimuli in all Windows fonts.

  • Stimulus Generation. Runtime generation of 2D and 3D objects.

AUDITORY STIMULI:

  • Stereo Output. Deliver any number of independent sound streams over headphones.

  • Multi-Speaker Output. Deliver sounds to up to eight speakers.

  • Sub-ms Precision. Less than 0.1 ms time jitter with modern computers and sound cards.

  • Generate Sounds. Generate simple and complex tones at runtime.

  • Calibrated Output. Precise control of volume from Presentation®. Pan and attenuate sounds under software control over both the stimuli and system settings.

MULTIMODAL STIMULI:

  • Tactile Stimuli. Control electric stimuli. Tactile stimulation with Microsoft’s force feedback devices coming soon!

  • Multimodal Stimuli. Combine stimuli in different modalities with flawless timing precision.

RESPONSES:

  • Button Presses. Responses from all Windows compatible joysticks, mice and touch screens.

  • Axis Devices. Read XY coordinates from axis devices like joysticks and mice.

  • Typed Responses. Acquire typed input and match it to word-response templates.

  • Spoken Responses. Precise vocal reaction times with speech capture using PC sound cards.

OTHER FEATURES:

  • Data Monitoring And Analysis. Dual monitor control permits runtime analysis of performance on a second s monitor. Complex sequential and event-filtering capability for fine-grained analysis.
  • Experiment Control. Subject control of entire experiment in Autorun mode. Adaptively change stimulus parameters at runtime based on the subject’s performance.
  • Software Interface. COM interface for custom software applications. COM interface to Matlab.
  • Calibration And Error Checking. No vague specifications of timing precision –- Benchmark testing allows you to measure the timing precision of your computer running your experiments.
  • Hardware Interface. Device drivers for real time interrupt processing. Flexible control of external devices though serial and parallel ports. Flexible control of digital I/O cards.

USER SUPPORT:

  • Download Experiments. Find experiments published by scientists in the Annals of Neurobehavioral Experiments and Stimuli (ANES). Download and run them with a mouse click!

  • Publish Experiments. Publish your own experiments in ANES and try for the $4000 ANES prize.

  • Forum. Consult the user forum with more than 2,500 postings.

  • Documentation. Online searchable documentation to answer questions as they occur.
